As of 2025-01-03, a total of 27 EPPO countries have nominated a contact point and 21 of them have entered resistance cases in the Database on Resistance Cases. A total of 1065 cases have been entered since the Database was launched. Only the resistance cases that have been validated by the EPPO Expert Working Group (EWG) on Resistance to Plant Protection Products (PPP) are published in the Database and are visible to the public. Since the creation of the Database a total of 994 cases have been validated and published. This includes 445 fungicide cases, 282 herbicide cases, 219 insecticide cases and 48 acaricide cases.

Since the last EWG meeting in Paris, in October 2024, 183 new cases have been validated. These were mostly, herbicide cases (45%), followed by insecticide cases (40%), fungicide cases (10%) and acaricide cases (5%). This is a contrast compared to the EWG meeting in October 2023, where 52% of the validated cases were fungicides. In 2024, the most reported herbicide resistant weed was Apera spica-venti, accounting for more than 10% of the cases. These cases were mainly reported as being due to inhibition of acetolactate synthase resistance,  and also due to inhibition of acetyl CoA carboxylase resistance or inhibition of photosynthesis at PSII resistance. This weed accounts for 22 resistance cases in the Database across 6 EPPO countries. Within insecticide resistance, 39 resistance cases (24% of the cases) reported in 2024 were for Myzus persicae. The insect it is resistant to 5 different MoA groups and has been reported by 9 EPPO countries. For fungicides, Botrytis cinerea has been the most common pathogen for which resistance has been reported in 2024, accounting for more than one third of the fungicide resistance cases this year. A total of 88 resistance cases have been reported in the database across 11 countries.

We thank all those experts in the EWG, those who have contributed to the Database so far, and look forward to receiving more information from contact points. We encourage those countries who have not yet nominated a contact point to do so.
